Foster Carer
Fostering

The Fostering Team is looking to recruit foster carers for different sections of our service including:

  • Foster Carers who can care for children in short term placements aged 5 - 18 years
  • Foster Carers who can care for sibling groups of 3 or more children.
  • Foster Carers for our Teenage Scheme
  • Foster Carers for our Short Break scheme and Supported Lodging service

General fostering

We are actively recruiting foster carers who can care for children aged between 0 - 18 years old who are in short term fostering placements.  Carers must be able to demonstrate they have the time, availability, space and empathy to offer a child.  We need carers who can show commitment, understanding and compassion to children during difficult times.  Carers must be willing to work with a wide age range of children in order to meet the needs of the service.  General foster carers need to have the time and availability to offer a child and a spare room.

We welcome applications from anyone who is able to care for sibling groups of 3 or more children.  Wherever possible we aim to place siblings together in order to maintain the bond and promote attachment that siblings have to one another.

Teenage Scheme

Bury Fostering Service offers a Teenage Scheme for some of our most vulnerable young people who have experienced significant difficulties during their childhood.  Carers on this service receive a regular weekly income between £466 to £525. The Teenage Scheme is there to offer a high level of multi agency working in order to meet the needs of the young person.  The scheme is accessed by young people who have difficulties with drug or alcohol misuse, absconding, poor attendance at school and high level behavioural needs.

Applicants interested in this role must demonstrate previous experience of working with vulnerable children / young people, have a high level of resilience and be able to commit to the placement for a minimum of 12 months.

Short break scheme

The Short Break Scheme offers specified targeted support to families in Bury who are struggling to manage their family circumstances.  The scheme intended for children aged school age and older to have a tea time break at a foster carers house once a week after school and a weekend overnight stay once or twice a month. Carers must be available to collect a child from a Bury school once a week.  The service is offered to families for a time specified period which allows the family some respite time to help them cope during a time when they are facing some difficulties. The Short Break scheme is a good option for those wishing to work with families in need but who don’t have full time availability to offer fostering.

Supported Lodgings

The Supported Lodging Service is intended for young people who are preparing to live independently.  Supported Lodgings carers provide a spare room and offer practical support to the young person.  Carers need to help the young person to develop independence and life skills such as cooking skills, help with budgeting, exploring apprenticeships or employment opportunities and positive lifestyle choices.
