SM2, £51,755 to £54,675 per annum
37 hours per week- The post holder will be required to work flexibly outside of normal working hours in accordance with the exigencies of the service, this includes attendance at evening meetings, weekend working and service responses to emergencies.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Senior Management Team within the Department of Operations at Bury Council as Head of Public Protection. The service encompasses Trading Standards, Licensing, Environmental Health, Climate Change and Carbon Management.
You will be joining us at an exciting and busy time and will play a key role in leading Public Protection Service through the Covid recovery process and EU exit. We are working closely with colleagues across Greater Manchester on the introduction of a Clean Air Zone and the development of Minimum Licensing Standards and this will be a key piece of work over the coming years.
Bury Council are currently developing and implementing our Climate Strategy with the aim of being carbon neutral by 2038 and we have secured a £8.5million from the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund to decarbonise 16 of our Corporate buildings this year.
As Head of Service, you will provide expert advice to Senior Management and members of the Council, lead, develop and shape the Public Protection service and embed new ways of working and associated polices and strategies.
We are looking for someone with a desire to demonstrate how effective regulation and innovation can make a positive difference to the businesses and people of Bury.
You will have a strong background in licensing, trading standards and public regulation, but will need to keep up to date with the relevant regulations, policy and legislation relating to these areas. You will hold a relevant professional qualification.
You will be able to demonstrate experience in managing and developing staff, alongside leadership abilities and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
