Environmental Health Officer -  Neighbourhoods Enforcement Team

We are seeking to appoint a qualified Environmental Health Officer or person with relevant qualifications and experience to join our Neighbourhoods Enforcement Section. You will be working as part of a small friendly team you will deal with a range of matters including statutory nuisances, noise problems, drainage, public health complaints, environmental crime, unauthorised Traveller encampments, ASB (ASB Crime & Policing Act) and responding to planning applications. You may also be required to help out with other areas of departmental work should the need arise. You will work in a supportive environment, be encouraged to make decisions and exercise your professional judgement. You will be expected to manage your own workload to ensure targets are met and to work as part of a team. 

You must be able to gather, collate and present evidence and determine and implement the best course of action to resolve issues relating to neighbourhoods enforcement work such as nuisance (noise, accumulations, smoke, animal nuisance), environmental crime (fly tipping), and public health (filthy and verminous properties) etc.

The work will involve a flexible approach when dealing with proactive and reactive issues; and you will be responsible for managing a caseload of work within the above disciplines.

You will have the opportunity to develop professionally and gain experience in a wide range of duties. Training will also be provided where necessary to ensure you maintain your competency and help you develop your professional role and move forward with your career.

The Neighbourhoods Enforcement Section is part of the Health and Environmental Protection Team under the Department of Operations. The wider team is also responsible for food safety, health and safety, air quality, climate change, contaminated land, private water supplies and environmental permitting.

EHOs anticipating EHRB registration in the near future are also welcome to apply for the Neighbourhoods Enforcement post. You should have knowledge of current legislation relating to environmental health and good communication skills together with the associated enthusiasm and commitment to fulfil the requirements of the post applied for.

The posts are Grade 12 (£33,799-£35,934), SCP 31 - 33 and hours of work will be 37 per week worked in accordance with the Authority's flexitime arrangements and is for a 2 year fixed term secondment cover till March 31/3/2022. 

A driving licence is required as a car user allowance is payable.
