Bury council established the Reach Out Project with the aim of providing a child focused short break and outreach service to improve the lives and wellbeing for some of the most vulnerable young people aged 10 – 18 in the borough. As part of a bespoke short-break and outreach service your role will be to get to know young people who are considered to be on the edge of care. You will develop professional relationships with relevant services, whilst focusing work through the young person in order to strengthen families/carers ability to better support and move the young person away from the edge of care.

 

You will need excellent communication skills, knowledge of care plans and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of professionalism and knowledge of the day to day operations of a Children’s Home. Experience of working with young people who present with emotional and behavioural difficulties and knowledge of childcare legislation including safeguarding and child protection is preferable – although an extensive training programme is also available to all staff within the Council.

 

The post requires you to have obtained/ willing to work towards gaining a Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce or equivalent. Further learning and development opportunities are provided to support you in developing your career.

 

Hours of work are 37 per week, worked in shifts in accordance with service requirements. The salary is £20,491 - £22,472 per annum, plus allowances.

In order to support budget reductions in Local Government, the Council looked at many ways to reduce spending that minimised the need to reduce employee numbers or impact on services. All employees up to and including the Chief Executive are required to take an additional 3 days (unpaid) annual leave. This can be taken at any time during the leave year. The cost of these additional days is spread over 12 months or pro rata to your start date.
