An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Council’s Transport service based at Bradley Fold Depot for an experienced and competent Workshop Manager, following the promotion of the previous postholder.
The Transport service is responsible for the servicing and maintenance of a fleet of around 250 vehicles and items of plant on behalf of a range of other Bury Council services.
The postholder will be responsible for the management of a Chargehand and small team of Mechanics, working both a day and a night shift. They will also manage an MOT and taxi-testing facility.
The successful candidate will be a qualified HGV mechanic with extensive workshop management experience and hold a current HGV driving license and a relevant qualification in motor vehicle engineering.
The postholder must have an in depth knowledge of vehicle maintenance requirements in order to comply with the conditions of the Council’s Goods Vehicle Operator License and other legislation. They must also possess specialist technical knowledge of such vehicles, gained from practical experience and ongoing training and the postholder will be expected to continue to undertake training as necessary to maintain and enhance this knowledge.
The job involves a great emphasis on Health & Safety and a thorough knowledge and understanding of this subject area is essential.
The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, be self-motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about achieving targets and providing excellent customer service. They must also have excellent planning and time management skills and the ability to effectively lead and motivate a small team.
